Barbara Griffith, MD, is the president of Duke Raleigh Hospital. She has over 20 years of clinical practice experience and leadership in various roles within the healthcare sector. As a hospital executive and board-certified emergency medicine physician, Dr. Griffith possesses a deep understanding of the healthcare landscape, particularly in meeting the needs of patients and their families in today’s environment.

Dr. Griffith joined Duke Raleigh Hospital in November 2021 as a senior Duke Health executive in Wake County. She has already made significant progress in expanding Duke Raleigh’s services to accommodate Wake County’s growing population, with a focus on cancer and specialized surgical care.

A well-known figure in the Duke Health community, Dr. Griffith previously served as the Chief Medical Officer and Chief of Business Operations for Duke Regional Hospital in Durham for seven years. In between her time at Duke Regional and Duke Raleigh hospitals, she served as the President and CEO of Woman’s Hospital, the largest maternity and women’s cancer hospital in Louisiana. During her tenure at Woman’s, she developed a digital growth strategy and fought to maintain hospital independence in a highly competitive environment.

In addition to her healthcare career, Dr. Griffith is a dedicated CrossFit enthusiast. She lives in North Raleigh with her husband, two daughters, and three dogs.
